Andrew Portfolio Manager 2015 - Andrew completed his B Sc (Eng) and B Com at UCT. He joined Allan Gray in February 2001 as a fixed interest trader and moved to the research team as an equity analyst in February 2003. He was appointed as fixed interest portfolio manager in June 2006 and he is a fund manager for the Allan Gray Bond and Money Market funds. In February 2008 he took on the additional responsibility of managing a portion of client equity and balanced portfolios.

Ian Director 2008 2015 Ian graduated from UCT and joined Allan Gray in 2001 as an equity analyst after several years as a management consultant. Ian has been managing a portion of client equity and balanced portfolios since January 2005, when he was appointed as a portfolio manager. In February 2008 he was appointed as chief investment officer, with overall responsibility for the investment team and portfolio management. He is a director of Allan Gray Limited.
Stephen Founder 2001 2008 Stephen resigned from AGL at the end of February 2008 and relocated to the United Kingdom to establish Contrarius Investment Advisory Limited (CIAL). Stephen has more than 10 years investment experience at Allan Gray Limited (AGL), the largest privately owned investment management firm in South Africa. Having joined AGL in 1997 as an equity analyst, he was appointed a portfolio manager in 1999 and a director in January 2000. He was made Chief Investment Officer on 1 April 2001. As Chief Investment Officer he was ultimately responsible for the investment performance of the firm and the management of the investment team. He was made Head of Research. Prior to joining Allan Gray Stephen completed his articles at Deloitte & Touche and was appointed Assistant Manager before his departure.
Simon 2000 2001 Before setting up Allan Gray in Australia, Simon spent 13 years with Allan Gray Pty Ltd in South Africa, of which 4 years was in the role of chief investment officer and executive chairman. He retains the role of non executive chairman of Allan Gray in South Africa. In 2002, Simon joined the Orbis Group where he headed Orbis' research investment team in London, before permanently relocating to Sydney. Since then he has continued to develop the business that was renamed Allan Gray, on 2 April 2012. Prior to joining Allan Gray Pty Ltd in South Africa, Simon conducted research in theoretical physics at Cambridge. He holds a Master of Science (Stellenbosch), Doctor of Philosophy (Cantab.), and is a CFA Charterholder.
