Airbnb has been steadily taking over the hospitality industry for a few years now, making super hosts out of those with property to spare (and making the company founders a fortune.) There are so many properties to choose from it can be hard to pick – but did you know that you could stay in homes owned or designed by some of the most famous people to ever live?

From Elizabeth Taylor’s lavish mansion to Sunny and Cher’s love nest and beyond, you could stay in places with true cultural significance. What’s more, it won’t always break the bank, either. When it comes to getaways, has it all.

Price: $719 / night*

There’s no denying that the Red Hot Chili Peppers have made a fortune from their musical success. Each member has some impressive property, but drummer Chad Smith previously owned a real gem. Named Casa Cortez, the Cabo San Lucas property comes with 24-hour guards and stunning ocean views.

2. Donna Karan’s Villa

Location: Turks and Caicos
Price: $7,130 /night*

Designers tend to know their stuff. Donna Karan’s Turks and Caicos pad is the epitome of style – but then again, at a cost of $7,130 a night, you wouldn’t expect anything less. Named Villa Tamarind, the property actually consists of two villas, a private gym, and of course, wonderful pools.

It’s also equipped with a butler to see to your every need during the stay and even complimentary yoga classes. If that doesn’t sound like the perfect getaway, what does? Did we mention it’s over 7,265 square feet?

3. Elizabeth Taylor’s Home

Location: Palm Springs, California
Price: $465 / night*

They don’t come more famous than Elizabeth Taylor. The actress exuded glamor over the course of her life. Her property portfolio was a great representation of that, including her Palm Springs mansion. The regal property is available to rent now for just $465 a night.

It’s still full of different things that once belonged to the Oscar-winning star, making it the perfect spot for film fans to visit. There’s a pool and ample seating outside, as well as all the mod-cons you would expect from a house of this size and status.

4. Frank Sinatra’s Midcentury Masterpiece

Location: Palm Springs, California
Price: $1,800 / night*

Ol’ Blue Eyes was no stranger to splashing the cash. In 1947, Frank Sinatra wanted to build a house – and that he did. The result was Twin Palms, an elaborate mansion situated in Palm Springs designed by E. Stewart Williams. According to the listing, it’s a mid-century masterpiece. There’s no arguing with that.

The house comes with rich history, a giant pool, and a concierge service to see to your every whim and need. At $1,800 a night it’s perfect for a special occasion like a honeymoon. There’s no doubt that Frank probably entertained several high-profile guests here.

5. Sonny & Cher’s Château

Location: Los Angeles, California
Price: $600 / night*

Sonny and Cher may have been all smiles for the camera, but their marriage was less than desirable. Even so, the duo remain an iconic part of American culture, which is why music lovers are willing to pay over $600 a night to stay in the couple’s former home.

The LA pad still retains the same ‘60s style it once had, with plenty of natural light and glorious views of the surrounding area. It’s equal parts chic and nostalgic, which isn’t easily achieved when it comes to decor.

6. The Entourage House

Location: Los Angeles, California
Price: $395 / night*

This home has been heavily featured on TV shows and movies, including The Bachelorette and Entourage. With a stunning blue pool and gorgeous views spanning the city, it has everything you need for a vacation.

While you can’t rent the entire house, you can stay in the 750-square-foot guest house complete with a pool, sauna, and steam room for just $395 a night. That’s a bargain considering just how much you get. According to Airbnb reviews, you won’t want to leave.

7. Jimi Hendrix’s Hideaway

Location: Maui, Hawaii
Price: $175 / night*

When some people think of Jimi Hendrix, they think of a city-dwelling man about town. It’s true that Jimi spent plenty of time pounding pavements and living it up in the big smoke, but he also liked a little bit of tranquility. While he was filming 1970’s Rainbow Bridge, he stayed in this idyllic Hawaii pad.

The small home is the perfect hideaway for anyone looking to take a break from reality and appreciate nature. Sure, it’s not quite as cheap as some of the other properties we’re looking at, but let’s face it – if it was good enough for Hendrix, it’s good enough for us.

8. Harry Houdini’s L.A. mansion

Location: Los Angeles, California
Price: Unknown

Harry Houdini was the master of magic, but he also had a good eye for property. Houdini lived in this gorgeous Los Angeles property with his wife up until his passing at the age of 52 in 1926. However, his wife stayed on at the house and enjoyed its terraced gardens and four bedrooms for many years.

The home isn’t just grand and lavish, it still contains many original features that the Houdini’s enjoyed. The pool is the same pool that Houdini practiced many of his best stunts and tricks in, and the home itself is said to contain hidden tunnels.

9. Tyler Perry’s Mansion

Location: Fairburn, Georgia
Price: $10,000 / night*

Tyler Perry has made a living out of making it big as an actor and producer. As a result, he’s incredibly wealthy. He bought a multi-million-dollar estate in Fairburn, Georgia some years ago, but after renovating it to his standards, he moved on.

Now, the home is available to rent but it will cost you a fortune. One night comes in at $10,000 which is a darn sight more than a luxury stay in a Hilton. That being said, Hilton’s don’t have private access to waterfalls, a tennis court, and lavish mod-cons.

10. Julie Andrews’ Rubber House

Location: Upstate New York
Price: $740 / night*

She’s a signing and acting sensation that knows the value of good real estate. Julie Andrews previously lived in what was known as the Rubber House. The Upstate, NY property was originally built for choreographer Eugene Loring.

As you might expect, it’s in a particularly well-to-do and affluent area that makes the most of the natural wonders that surround it. Of course, Julie doesn’t live in the home anymore, but it’s still pricey to rent out at $800 per night.

11. Matthew McConaughey’s Wild Turkey Home

Location: South Wales, Australia
Price: Unknown

Matthew McConaughey is a Southern boy at heart, but we never thought that extended to South Australia. The Oscar-winning actor teamed up with Wild Turkey to create a stunning eco-friendly cottage in South Wales – and for the right price, anyone can stay there.

The small but luxurious hideaway has everything you need for a quiet night away, including a little tipple and an old-style radio. The wood-paneled walls give it a cabin vibe. It certainly looks like something from a Sony movie, even if Matthew won’t be in it when you arrive.

12. Conan O’Brien’s Studio

Location: Burbank, California
Price: Unknown

Television host and comedian Conan O’Brien listed his studio in the heart of Burbank, CA up for rent on Airbnb back in 2011, and anyone who is a fan of the late-night talk and stayed at the place surely felt super close to that star.

The place slept four and was “a short walk to the set of Gilmore Girls and Warner Bros commissary.” O’Brien’s Airbnb is over 25,000 square feet in size, and it looks very industrial. The place is located in the building where the ’80s classic The Goonies was filmed.

13. Jim Morrison’s Former Home

Location: West Hollywood, California
Price: $3,180/month*

Singer Jim Morrison certainly left a big impact on rock music, and fifty years after his death he is still considered one of the big ones. His two-bedroom apartment in West Hollywood was up on Airbnb for a price of $3,180 per month.
