There’s nothing better after a long day than curling up on the couch with a bucket of popcorn and watching your favorite shows. Networks like Disney’s ABC decide to keep or cancel a show based on a lot of factors, including viewership rates, popularity with the times, and, of course, whether the show is actually making any money.

Here, we’ll tell you the status of your favorite shows—namely, whether they’ve been renewed or canceled, plus just how much the stars earn, how some shows have production costs upward of $1 million per episode, and whether these factors led to the show’s untimely demise.

If your show is canceled, don’t be too down, as there might be a spinoff in the works sometime in the future. They might even reboot it entirely. After all, it’s all about bringing in revenue and the entertainment business has that down to a fine art – most of the time, anyway. Read on to find out the status of your favorite shows.

1. Hell’s Kitchen

Status: Renewed
Network: Fox
Est. Cost: $1 million per episode*

Gordon Ramsay, the chef pioneer behind the show Hell’s Kitchen (among others), has been cagey about his salary – though estimated figures report that he now makes up to $225,000 per episode of his show. The reality series has 20 hit seasons so far, with its first season airing back on May 30, 2005.

It features competitive chefs fighting to win their own restaurant and, perhaps more importantly, Gordon Ramsay’s respect. The latest winner of the show was Ariel Contreras. The Fox production has boosted Ramsay’s own personal net worth to a very impressive $190 million. Given the popularity of the series, that number is set to increase as the seasons tick by.

The show is far too elaborate to be succinctly explained here, but it has been wildly successful—that much is clear. Doctor Who has had 13 seasons so far, with number 14 fast approaching. The show was created by C.E. Webber and Sydney Newman.

3. American Ninja Warrior

Status: Renewed
Network: NBC
Est. Cost: $2 million per episode*

5. Dancing with the Stars

Fans are always just as excited to see the judges on the panel as they are to see celebrities learn to jive and cha-cha. The presenters include famous faces like Tom Bergeron and Erin Andrews. The salary for the entire show is capped at $295,000, which isn’t to be sniffed at.

Pascal plays a lone gunfighter (the Mandalorian) who travels through the Star Wars Universe. He travels through the galaxy’s outer reaches to get away from the New Republic’s grasp. The first episode aired on November 12, 2019. The production location is, alas, not in space (yet), but it is in Los Angeles, California. Season 3 is expected to drop in 2023.

10. NCIS

Status: Renewed
Network: CBS
Est. Cost: $2.5 million per episode*

Fans can’t get enough of the world that NCIS created, so its network CBS would be crazy to cancel the rating juggernaut. With an impressive seventeen-year run that shows no signs of stopping, the drama series is currently the second longest-running non-animated show on TV, second only to fellow procedural Law and Order: Special Victims Unit.

11. Archer

Status: Renewed

Fans of the show are intrigued to see how the storyline continues to develop, proving that there’s life left in this animation yet. Archer is aging incredibly well and keeping its edge in a market full of stiff competition.

12. Fauda

Status: Renewed
Network:
Netflix
Est. Cost: $200,000 per episode*

Fauda is an Israeli television series that became a hit worldwide when it made it to Netflix. The suspenseful show focuses on a former Israeli Defense Force soldier from an elite unit who gets drawn back into the hunt for a terrorist he thought he took out years ago.

Similar to Homeland or 24 with its non-stop twists and turns, Fauda is sure to keep anyone glued to the screen, unsure what will happen next. Nothing is off-limits in this thriller, which also somehow manages to be successful with Palestinians and Israelis alike, a testament to the show’s storytelling abilities.

13. The Good Doctor

Status: Renewed
Network:
ABC
Est. Cost:
$1 million in total*

Despite the success of The Good Doctor, two actors decided not to return for season 4: Nicholas Gonzales and Jasika Nicole, according to Good Housekeeping. The medical drama has been on ABC since 2017, and it is one of the highest-rated shows from the network, with a rating of 8.2/10 on IMDb and 8.8/10 on TV.com.

The Good Doctor stars Bates Motel’s Freddie Highmore as Dr. Shaun Murphy, an autistic savant surgeon who joins the medical team at San Jose St. Bonaventure Hospital. Fans were elated when the fifth season hit screens in September 2021, and even more excited when it was renewed for a sixth outing.

14. Dead to Me

Status: Canceled
Network:
Netflix
Est. Cost:
$300,000 per episode* (Cast Salary)

Netflix has a knack for finding vehicles for actors of days gone by to make their own. Christina Applegate hadn’t had mainstream success for quite some time, until she was cast in one of the leading roles in Dead to Me, opposite Linda Cardellini. Now, she’s back on top.

The dark comedy has Will Ferrell as a producer, which could explain why it’s just so good. Applegate and Cardellini both turn in stellar performances as women trying to get themselves out of some very tricky situations, including murder. Netflix renewed it for a third and final season in 2020 that is set to air in 2022.
