Canada shares higher at close of trade; S&P/TSX Composite up 0.05%

Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Friday, as gains in the Healthcare , Energy and Financials sectors propelled shares higher.

At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite rose 0.05%.

The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Energy Fuels Inc. (TSX: EFR ), which rose 5.23% or 0.520 points to trade at 10.470 at the close. Transcontinental Inc (TSX: TCLa ) added 4.66% or 0.90 points to end at 20.20 and NexGen Energy Ltd. (TSX: NXE ) was up 4.07% or 0.230 points to 5.880 in late trade.

Biggest losers included Canada Goose Holdings Inc (TSX: GOOS ), which lost 6.19% or 2.87 points to trade at 43.53 in late trade. Lithium Americas Corp (TSX: LAC ) declined 5.36% or 2.00 points to end at 35.31 and Docebo Inc (TSX: DCBO ) shed 3.79% or 2.63 points to 66.84.

Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 582 to 446 and 114 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.

The S&P/TSX 60 VIX , which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 3.35% to 17.61.

In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was up 0.36% or 6.45 to $1795.65 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in February fell 0.67% or 0.53 to hit $78.93 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract fell 0.24% or 0.20 to trade at $81.79 a barrel.

CAD/USD was up 0.77% to 0.7914, while CAD/EUR rose 0.18% to 0.6966.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.62% at 95.733.
