Canada shares higher at close of trade; S&P/TSX Composite up 0.12%

Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Healthcare , IT and Materials sectors propelled shares higher.

At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite rose 0.12% to hit a new 6-month high.

The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were BRP Inc (TSX: DOO ), which rose 5.07% or 3.56 points to trade at 73.80 at the close. Osisko Mining Corp (TSX: OSK ) added 4.73% or 0.16 points to end at 3.54 and Lightspeed POS Inc (TSX: LSPD ) was up 4.42% or 2.93 points to 69.29 in late trade.

Biggest losers included Cronos Group Inc (TSX: CRON ), which lost 2.52% or 0.26 points to trade at 10.06 in late trade. Crescent Point Energy Corp . (TSX: CPG ) declined 2.31% or 0.06 points to end at 2.54 and Brookfield Asset Management Inc (TSX: BAMa ) shed 2.26% or 1.22 points to 52.84.

Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 644 to 350 and 105 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.

The S&P/TSX 60 VIX , which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was unchanged 0% to 11.27.

In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.17% or 3.00 to $1808.50 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in January fell 1.55% or 0.71 to hit $45.00 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract fell 1.61% or 0.78 to trade at $47.75 a barrel.

CAD/USD was down 0.09% to 0.7684, while CAD/EUR fell 0.07% to 0.6450.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.05% at 92.012.
