Canada shares higher at close of trade; S&P/TSX Composite up 0.17%

Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the IT , Industrials and Consumer Staples sectors propelled shares higher.

At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite rose 0.17% to hit a new all time high.

The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Denison Mines Corp (TSX: DML ), which rose 10.34% or 0.21 points to trade at 2.24 at the close. Cameco Corp (TSX: CCO ) added 5.59% or 1.73 points to end at 32.67 and Aritzia Inc (TSX: ATZ ) was up 4.96% or 2.39 points to 50.62 in late trade.

Biggest losers included New Gold Inc (TSX: NGD ), which lost 3.85% or 0.065 points to trade at 1.625 in late trade. Westport Fuel Systems Inc (TSX: WPRT ) declined 3.57% or 0.15 points to end at 4.05 and Real Matters Inc (TSX: REAL ) shed 3.44% or 0.35 points to 9.82.

Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 583 to 452 and 112 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.

The S&P/TSX 60 VIX , which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was unchanged 0% to 11.27.

In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.11% or 2.00 to $1766.30 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in December rose 0.02% or 0.02 to hit $81.75 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract fell 0.64% or 0.54 to trade at $84.32 a barrel.

CAD/USD was down 0.03% to 0.8080, while CAD/EUR fell 0.11% to 0.6959.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.00% at 93.942.
