Canada shares higher at close of trade; S&P/TSX Composite up 0.20%
Credit: © Reuters. – Canada equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Healthcare , Energy and Telecoms sectors propelled shares higher.

At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite added 0.20%.

The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were SNC-Lavalin Group Inc . (TSX: SNC ), which rose 6.31% or 1.81 points to trade at 30.51 at the close. OceanaGold Corporation (TSX: OGC ) added 5.86% or 0.130 points to end at 2.350 and Semafo Inc . (TSX: SMF ) was up 5.58% or 0.14 points to 2.65 in late trade.

Biggest losers included ECN Capital Corp (TSX: ECN ), which lost 3.48% or 0.17 points to trade at 4.71 in late trade. Gibson Energy Inc . (TSX: GEI ) declined 3.00% or 0.83 points to end at 26.84 and Silvercorp Metals Inc (TSX: SVM ) shed 2.66% or 0.190 points to 6.960.

Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 614 to 448 and 121 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.

The S&P/TSX 60 VIX , which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 5.93% to 12.68.

In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was up 0.26% or 3.85 to $1482.55 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in February rose 0.25% or 0.15 to hit $61.00 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract rose 0.45% or 0.30 to trade at $66.47 a barrel.

CAD/USD was down 0.03% to 0.7622, while CAD/EUR fell 0.11% to 0.6852.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.02% at 96.985.
