Canada shares higher at close of trade; S&P/TSX Composite up 0.24%

Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Friday, as gains in the Healthcare , Clean Technology and IT sectors propelled shares higher.

At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite gained 0.24%.

The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Nuvei Corp (TSX: NVEI ), which rose 10.99% or 6.99 points to trade at 70.61 at the close. Cronos Group Inc (TSX: CRON ) added 7.45% or 0.38 points to end at 5.48 and Westshore Terminals Investment Corp (TSX: WTE ) was up 7.42% or 1.95 points to 28.24 in late trade.

Biggest losers included Enerplus Corporation (TSX: ERF ), which lost 5.84% or 0.73 points to trade at 11.76 in late trade. Enghouse Systems Ltd (TSX: ENGH ) declined 5.70% or 2.75 points to end at 45.50 and Crescent Point Energy Corp . (TSX: CPG ) shed 5.17% or 0.31 points to 5.69.

Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 509 to 497 and 134 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.

The S&P/TSX 60 VIX , which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 0.33% to 15.27.

In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was up 0.04% or 0.65 to $1798.85 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in January fell 2.28% or 1.65 to hit $70.73 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract fell 2.16% or 1.62 to trade at $73.40 a barrel.

CAD/USD was down 0.85% to 0.7761, while CAD/EUR fell 0.09% to 0.6902.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.58% at 96.575.
