Canada shares higher at close of trade; S&P/TSX Composite up 0.30%

Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Telecoms , Energy and Healthcare sectors propelled shares higher.

At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite rose 0.30%.

The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Rogers Communications Inc (TSX: RCIb ), which rose 11.56% or 6.05 points to trade at 58.40 at the close. Seven Generations Energy Ltd (TSX: VII ) added 9.13% or 0.40 points to end at 4.78 and Vermilion Energy Inc . (TSX: VET ) was up 7.98% or 0.28 points to 3.79 in late trade.

Biggest losers included Enghouse Systems Ltd (TSX: ENGH ), which lost 4.54% or 3.37 points to trade at 70.94 in late trade. Fortuna Silver Mines Inc (TSX: FVI ) declined 4.54% or 0.44 points to end at 9.25 and SilverCrest Metals Inc (TSX: SIL ) shed 4.35% or 0.56 points to 12.31.

Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 530 to 498 and 133 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.

The S&P/TSX 60 VIX , which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was unchanged 0% to 11.27.

In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 1.18% or 22.80 to $1906.70 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in December rose 1.60% or 0.64 to hit $40.67 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract rose 1.80% or 0.75 to trade at $42.48 a barrel.

CAD/USD was up 0.12% to 0.7614, while CAD/EUR rose 0.48% to 0.6442.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.38% at 92.948.
