Canada shares higher at close of trade; S&P/TSX Composite up 0.35%
Credit: © Reuters. – Canada equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Materials , IT and Consumer Discretionary sectors propelled shares higher.

At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite added 0.35%.

The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Lightspeed POS Inc (TSX: LSPD ), which rose 8.62% or 3.19 points to trade at 40.20 at the close. NovaGold Resources Inc (TSX: NG ) added 5.15% or 0.58 points to end at 11.84 and Alacer Gold Corp (TSX: ASR ) was up 4.93% or 0.330 points to 7.020 in late trade.

Biggest losers included Hexo Corp (TSX: HEXO ), which lost 5.79% or 0.1100 points to trade at 1.7900 in late trade. Exchange Income Corporation (TSX: EIF ) declined 3.31% or 1.470 points to end at 42.960 and ARC Resources Ltd . (TSX: ARX ) shed 3.04% or 0.25 points to 7.98.

Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 632 to 409 and 132 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.

The S&P/TSX 60 VIX , which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was unchanged 0.00% to 12.68.

In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was up 0.32% or 5.05 to $1573.85 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in February fell 0.89% or 0.56 to hit $62.71 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract fell 0.93% or 0.64 to trade at $68.27 a barrel.

CAD/USD was down 0.29% to 0.7690, while CAD/EUR rose 0.20% to 0.6899.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.37% at 96.703.
