Canada shares higher at close of trade; S&P/TSX Composite up 0.37%
Credit: © Reuters. – Canada equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Healthcare , IT and Materials sectors propelled shares higher.

At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite gained 0.37%.

The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Lithium Americas Corp (TSX: LAC ), which rose 12.27% or 2.22 points to trade at 20.31 at the close. Osisko Mining Corp (TSX: OSK ) added 6.81% or 0.19 points to end at 2.98 and Dollarama Inc (TSX: DOL ) was up 5.88% or 3.07 points to 55.31 in late trade.

Biggest losers included BlackBerry Ltd (TSX: BB ), which lost 10.10% or 1.19 points to trade at 10.59 in late trade. Russel Metals Inc . (TSX: RUS ) declined 2.87% or 0.74 points to end at 25.00 and Ero Copper Corp (TSX: ERO ) shed 2.76% or 0.61 points to 21.47.

Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 635 to 430 and 94 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.

The S&P/TSX 60 VIX , which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was unchanged 0% to 11.27.

In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was up 1.37% or 23.15 to $1709.15 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in May fell 2.00% or 1.21 to hit $59.34 a barrel, while the June Brent oil contract fell 1.96% or 1.26 to trade at $62.91 a barrel.

CAD/USD was up 0.55% to 0.7956, while CAD/EUR rose 0.50% to 0.6786.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.10% at 93.227.
