Canada shares higher at close of trade; S&P/TSX Composite up 0.38%

Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Energy , Real Estate and REITs sectors propelled shares higher.

At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite added 0.38%.

The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Vermilion Energy Inc . (TSX: VET ), which rose 6.34% or 1.57 points to trade at 26.34 at the close. Precision Drilling Corporation (TSX: PD ) added 6.00% or 5.01 points to end at 88.49 and MEG Energy Corp (TSX: MEG ) was up 5.65% or 1.12 points to 20.95 in late trade.

Biggest losers included Bombardier Inc (TSX: BBDb ), which lost 5.36% or 1.36 points to trade at 24.01 in late trade. Bausch Health Companies Inc (TSX: BHC ) declined 5.02% or 0.49 points to end at 9.28 and Nuvei Corp (TSX: NVEI ) shed 3.69% or 1.90 points to 49.60.

Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 653 to 383 and 98 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.

The S&P/TSX 60 VIX , which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 3.85% to 21.96.

In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was down 0.27% or 5.00 to $1,835.60 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in August rose 1.71% or 1.85 to hit $109.84 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract rose 0.74% or 0.84 to trade at $114.97 a barrel.

CAD/USD was unchanged 0.51% to 0.77, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.34% to 0.74.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.03% at 104.23.
