Canada shares higher at close of trade; S&P/TSX Composite up 0.44%

Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Energy , Healthcare and IT sectors propelled shares higher.

At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite gained 0.44% to hit a new all time high.

The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were BlackBerry Ltd (TSX: BB ), which rose 8.40% or 1.08 points to trade at 13.93 at the close. Osisko Mining Corp (TSX: OSK ) added 6.67% or 0.19 points to end at 3.04 and Stelco Holdings Inc (TSX: STLC ) was up 5.74% or 2.61 points to 48.11 in late trade.

Biggest losers included Badger Infrastructure Solutions Ltd (TSX: BDGI ), which lost 3.04% or 1.09 points to trade at 34.78 in late trade. OceanaGold Corporation (TSX: OGC ) declined 2.63% or 0.060 points to end at 2.220 and Real Matters Inc (TSX: REAL ) shed 1.46% or 0.18 points to 12.18.

Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 646 to 404 and 88 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.

The S&P/TSX 60 VIX , which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was unchanged 0% to 11.27.

In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.09% or 1.65 to $1807.95 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in October rose 3.21% or 2.11 to hit $67.75 a barrel, while the November Brent oil contract rose 3.17% or 2.17 to trade at $70.54 a barrel.

CAD/USD was up 0.42% to 0.7940, while CAD/EUR rose 0.38% to 0.6755.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.05% at 92.920.
