Canada shares higher at close of trade; S&P/TSX Composite up 0.50%

Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Materials , Clean Technology and IT sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite added 0.50% to hit a new all time high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were OceanaGold Corporation (TSX: OGC ), which rose 7.37% or 0.140 points to trade at 2.040 at the close. Silvercorp Metals Inc (TSX: SVM ) added 7.19% or 0.46 points to end at 6.86 and Lightspeed POS Inc (TSX: LSPD ) was up 6.79% or 5.49 points to 86.34 in late trade.
Biggest losers included OrganiGram Holdings Inc (TSX: OGI ), which lost 4.82% or 0.21 points to trade at 4.15 in late trade. Aphria Inc (TSX: APHA ) declined 4.61% or 1.050 points to end at 21.740 and Denison Mines Corp (TSX: DML ) shed 4.32% or 0.07 points to 1.55.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 583 to 478 and 116 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX , which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was unchanged 0% to 11.27.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was up 0.89% or 15.35 to $1744.15 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in May rose 1.19% or 0.70 to hit $59.35 a barrel, while the June Brent oil contract rose 0.93% or 0.58 to trade at $62.73 a barrel.
CAD/USD was down 0.38% to 0.7954, while CAD/EUR fell 0.85% to 0.6701.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.28% at 92.338.
