Canada shares higher at close of trade; S&P/TSX Composite up 0.52%

Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Energy , Healthcare and Telecoms sectors propelled shares higher.

At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite rose 0.52%.

The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Energy Fuels Inc. (TSX: EFR ), which rose 12.68% or 1.05 points to trade at 9.33 at the close. NexGen Energy Ltd. (TSX: NXE ) added 8.98% or 0.53 points to end at 6.43 and Denison Mines Corp (TSX: DML ) was up 8.28% or 0.13 points to 1.70 in late trade.

Biggest losers included Nutrien Ltd (TSX: NTR ), which lost 3.39% or 3.93 points to trade at 112.10 in late trade. NFI Group Inc (TSX: NFI ) declined 3.34% or 0.46 points to end at 13.33 and Aritzia Inc (TSX: ATZ ) shed 3.06% or 1.18 points to 37.43.

Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 556 to 435 and 110 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.

The S&P/TSX 60 VIX , which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 2.87% to 17.24 a new 1-month low.

In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was up 0.63% or 11.65 to $1,855.35 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in July rose 1.24% or 1.47 to hit $119.97 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract rose 1.28% or 1.53 to trade at $121.04 a barrel.

CAD/USD was unchanged 0.38% to 0.80, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.28% to 0.75.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.13% at 102.32.
