Canada shares higher at close of trade; S&P/TSX Composite up 0.56%

Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Friday, as gains in the Consumer Discretionary , Financials and Industrials sectors propelled shares higher.

At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite rose 0.56%.

The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Nuvei Corp (TSX: NVEI ), which rose 6.90% or 10.01 points to trade at 155.11 at the close. Air Canada (TSX: AC ) added 6.77% or 1.57 points to end at 24.70 and Methanex Corporation (TSX: MX ) was up 5.21% or 3.04 points to 61.41 in late trade.

Biggest losers included Innergex Renewable Energy Inc . (TSX: INE ), which lost 3.10% or 0.63 points to trade at 19.67 in late trade. Real Matters Inc (TSX: REAL ) declined 2.89% or 0.29 points to end at 9.75 and Canopy Growth Corp (TSX: WEED ) shed 2.68% or 0.470 points to 17.080.

Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 613 to 408 and 109 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.

The S&P/TSX 60 VIX , which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was unchanged 0% to 11.27.

In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.08% or 1.35 to $1758.35 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in November rose 0.77% or 0.58 to hit $75.61 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract rose 0.96% or 0.75 to trade at $79.06 a barrel.

CAD/USD was up 0.37% to 0.7914, while CAD/EUR rose 0.29% to 0.6826.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.19% at 94.065.
