Canada shares higher at close of trade; S&P/TSX Composite up 0.99%

Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Healthcare , Clean Technology and IT sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite rose 0.99% to hit a new all time high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Linamar Corporation (TSX: LNR ), which rose 11.24% or 8.99 points to trade at 89.00 at the close. Lightspeed POS Inc (TSX: LSPD ) added 10.03% or 7.36 points to end at 80.72 and HudBay Minerals Inc (TSX: HBM ) was up 9.70% or 0.85 points to 9.61 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Ivanhoe Mines Ltd. (TSX: IVN ), which lost 6.23% or 0.48 points to trade at 7.22 in late trade. Whitecap Resources Inc . (TSX: WCP ) declined 3.23% or 0.21 points to end at 6.29 and Artis REIT (TSX: AX_u ) shed 2.94% or 0.32 points to 10.57.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 740 to 323 and 100 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX , which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was unchanged 0% to 11.27.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was up 0.01% or 0.20 to $1722.00 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in April rose 2.33% or 1.50 to hit $65.94 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract rose 2.49% or 1.69 to trade at $69.59 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 0.59% to 0.7972, while CAD/EUR rose 0.11% to 0.6652.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.42% at 91.442.
