Canada shares higher at close of trade; S&P/TSX Composite up 0.99%

Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Friday, as gains in the Healthcare , Consumer Discretionary and Energy sectors propelled shares higher.

At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite gained 0.99% to hit a new all time high.

The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were OceanaGold Corporation (TSX: OGC ), which rose 19.30% or 0.415 points to trade at 2.565 at the close. OrganiGram Holdings Inc (TSX: OGI ) added 11.74% or 0.35 points to end at 3.33 and Turquoise Hill Resources Ltd. (TSX: TRQ ) was up 10.00% or 2.31 points to 25.40 in late trade.

Biggest losers included Centerra Gold Inc (TSX: CG ), which lost 29.80% or 3.57 points to trade at 8.41 in late trade. Aurinia Pharmaceuticals Inc (TSX: AUP ) declined 17.63% or 2.65 points to end at 12.38 and NFI Group Inc (TSX: NFI ) shed 3.41% or 0.91 points to 25.77.

Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 673 to 347 and 121 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.

The S&P/TSX 60 VIX , which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was unchanged 0% to 11.27.

In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was up 0.92% or 16.75 to $1832.45 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in June rose 0.15% or 0.10 to hit $64.81 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract rose 0.12% or 0.08 to trade at $68.17 a barrel.

CAD/USD was up 0.05% to 0.8234, while CAD/EUR fell 0.74% to 0.6768.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.79% at 90.222.
