Canada shares higher at close of trade; S&P/TSX Composite up 1.27%
Credit: © Reuters. – Canada equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the IT , Healthcare and Consumer Discretionary sectors propelled shares higher.

At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite gained 1.27%.

The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Nuvei Corp (TSX: NVEI ), which rose 13.26% or 8.51 points to trade at 72.70 at the close. Shopify Inc (TSX: SHOP ) added 13.16% or 87.34 points to end at 751.21 and Hut 8 Mining Corp (TSX: HUT ) was up 10.38% or 0.68 points to 7.23 in late trade.

Biggest losers included Vermilion Energy Inc . (TSX: VET ), which lost 9.57% or 2.90 points to trade at 27.40 in late trade. MEG Energy Corp (TSX: MEG ) declined 7.81% or 1.54 points to end at 18.18 and Methanex Corporation (TSX: MX ) shed 5.81% or 3.82 points to 61.97.

Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 647 to 398 and 90 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.

The S&P/TSX 60 VIX , which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 2.02% to 19.42 a new 1-month low.

In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was down 2.23% or 45.60 to $1,997.70 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in April fell 11.50% or 14.23 to hit $109.47 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract fell 12.59% or 16.11 to trade at $111.87 a barrel.

CAD/USD was unchanged 0.54% to 0.78, while CAD/EUR fell 1.02% to 0.70.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 1.14% at 97.95.
