Canada shares higher at close of trade; S&P/TSX Composite up 1.75%

Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Energy , Materials and Clean Technology sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite added 1.75% to hit a new 1-month high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Seven Generations Energy Ltd (TSX: VII ), which rose 7.87% or 0.24 points to trade at 3.29 at the close. Inter Pipeline Ltd (TSX: IPL ) added 6.37% or 0.77 points to end at 12.85 and Ballard Power Systems Inc (TSX: BLDP ) was up 6.24% or 1.55 points to 26.38 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Lightspeed POS Inc (TSX: LSPD ), which lost 3.42% or 1.15 points to trade at 32.50 in late trade. Ivanhoe Mines Ltd. (TSX: IVN ) declined 3.09% or 0.13 points to end at 4.08 and Aecon Group Inc . (TSX: ARE ) shed 2.91% or 0.44 points to 14.66.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 578 to 412 and 122 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX , which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was unchanged 0% to 11.27.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was down 0.11% or 1.95 to $1812.15 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in August rose 0.50% or 0.20 to hit $40.30 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract rose 0.35% or 0.15 to trade at $42.87 a barrel.
CAD/USD was down 0.03% to 0.7345, while CAD/EUR fell 0.44% to 0.6448.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.19% at 96.225.
