Canada shares lower at close of trade; S&P/TSX Composite down 0.10%
Credit: © Reuters. – Canada equities were lower at the close on Friday, as losses in the Energy , Consumer Staples and Consumer Discretionary sectors propelled shares lower.

At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite fell 0.10%.

The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Corus Entertainment Inc (TSX: CJRb ), which rose 6.50% or 0.38 points to trade at 6.23 at the close. Methanex Corporation (TSX: MX ) added 6.12% or 2.87 points to end at 49.75 and Boralex Inc (TSX: BLX ) was up 4.59% or 1.87 points to 42.59 in late trade.

Biggest losers included Denison Mines Corp (TSX: DML ), which lost 7.05% or 0.11 points to trade at 1.45 in late trade. Trillium Therapeutics Inc (TSX: TRIL ) declined 6.41% or 0.90 points to end at 13.15 and NexGen Energy Ltd. (TSX: NXE ) shed 5.12% or 0.270 points to 5.000.

Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 541 to 455 and 132 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.

The S&P/TSX 60 VIX , which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was unchanged 0% to 11.27.

In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was down 0.83% or 14.55 to $1743.65 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in May fell 0.39% or 0.23 to hit $59.37 a barrel, while the June Brent oil contract fell 0.28% or 0.18 to trade at $63.02 a barrel.

CAD/USD was up 0.27% to 0.7981, while CAD/EUR rose 0.36% to 0.6704.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.10% at 92.157.
