Canada shares lower at close of trade; S&P/TSX Composite down 0.15%

Investing.com – Canada equities were lower at the close on Thursday, as losses in the Consumer Staples , Industrials and Clean Technology sectors propelled shares lower.

At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite lost 0.15%.

The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Lightspeed Commerce Inc (TSX: LSPD ), which rose 7.17% or 10.60 points to trade at 158.41 at the close. goeasy Ltd (TSX: GSY ) added 5.13% or 10.38 points to end at 212.74 and Nutrien Ltd (TSX: NTR ) was up 3.30% or 2.54 points to 79.40 in late trade.

Biggest losers included Transcontinental Inc (TSX: TCLa ), which lost 4.83% or 1.12 points to trade at 22.05 in late trade. NexGen Energy Ltd. (TSX: NXE ) declined 4.51% or 0.330 points to end at 6.980 and New Gold Inc (TSX: NGD ) shed 4.43% or 0.070 points to 1.510.

Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 569 to 401 and 140 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.

The S&P/TSX 60 VIX , which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was unchanged 0% to 11.27.

In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.08% or 1.50 to $1795.00 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in October fell 1.92% or 1.33 to hit $67.97 a barrel, while the November Brent oil contract fell 1.82% or 1.32 to trade at $71.28 a barrel.

CAD/USD was up 0.34% to 0.7905, while CAD/EUR rose 0.25% to 0.6683.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.17% at 92.493.
