Canada shares lower at close of trade; S&P/TSX Composite down 0.18%
Credit: © Reuters. – Canada equities were lower at the close on Tuesday, as losses in the IT , Consumer Staples and Healthcare sectors propelled shares lower.

At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite declined 0.18%.

The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were ARC Resources Ltd . (TSX: ARX ), which rose 8.81% or 1.41 points to trade at 17.41 at the close. Secure Energy Services Inc . (TSX: SES ) added 8.10% or 0.47 points to end at 6.27 and NuVista Energy Ltd . (TSX: NVA ) was up 7.94% or 0.82 points to 11.15 in late trade.

Biggest losers included Kinross Gold Corporation (TSX: K ), which lost 7.02% or 0.37 points to trade at 4.90 in late trade. Lightspeed Commerce Inc (TSX: LSPD ) declined 6.97% or 2.19 points to end at 29.24 and Shopify Inc (TSX: SHOP ) shed 6.17% or 29.66 points to 451.04.

Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 586 to 433 and 88 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.

The S&P/TSX 60 VIX , which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 0.66% to 21.51.

In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was down 0.20% or 3.65 to $1,821.15 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in August rose 1.95% or 2.14 to hit $111.71 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract rose 2.50% or 2.77 to trade at $113.75 a barrel.

CAD/USD was unchanged 0.03% to 0.78, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.65% to 0.74.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.58% at 104.28.
