Canada shares lower at close of trade; S&P/TSX Composite down 0.27%

Investing.com – Canada equities were lower at the close on Monday, as losses in the Clean Technology , Industrials and IT sectors propelled shares lower.

At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite fell 0.27%.

The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Turquoise Hill Resources Ltd. (TSX: TRQ ), which rose 4.61% or 0.72 points to trade at 16.35 at the close. IAMGold Corporation (TSX: IMG ) added 3.37% or 0.14 points to end at 4.30 and Fortuna Silver Mines Inc (TSX: FVI ) was up 3.30% or 0.16 points to 5.01 in late trade.

Biggest losers included LifeWorks Inc (TSX: LWRK ), which lost 5.03% or 1.41 points to trade at 26.61 in late trade. Superior Plus Corp (TSX: SPB ) declined 5.02% or 0.74 points to end at 14.00 and Ero Copper Corp (TSX: ERO ) shed 4.97% or 1.19 points to 22.76.

Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 602 to 412 and 107 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.

The S&P/TSX 60 VIX , which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 4.75% to 12.56.

In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.03% or 0.65 to $1869.15 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in January unchanged 0.00% or 0.00 to hit $79.69 a barrel, while the January Brent oil contract fell 0.13% or 0.11 to trade at $82.06 a barrel.

CAD/USD was up 0.29% to 0.7992, while CAD/EUR rose 0.86% to 0.7017.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.28% at 95.390.
