Canada shares lower at close of trade; S&P/TSX Composite down 0.28%

Investing.com – Canada equities were lower at the close on Thursday, as losses in the Healthcare , Clean Technology and REITs sectors propelled shares lower.

At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite lost 0.28%.

The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Crescent Point Energy Corp . (TSX: CPG ), which rose 12.20% or 0.51 points to trade at 4.69 at the close. Superior Plus Corp (TSX: SPB ) added 5.80% or 0.76 points to end at 13.86 and HudBay Minerals Inc (TSX: HBM ) was up 4.44% or 0.40 points to 9.41 in late trade.

Biggest losers included Canopy Growth Corp (TSX: WEED ), which lost 7.15% or 3.690 points to trade at 47.920 in late trade. Aurora Cannabis Inc (TSX: ACB ) declined 5.97% or 0.990 points to end at 15.580 and Ballard Power Systems Inc (TSX: BLDP ) shed 4.16% or 1.69 points to 38.96.

Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 636 to 392 and 107 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.

The S&P/TSX 60 VIX , which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was unchanged 0% to 11.27.

In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was up 0.06% or 1.10 to $1773.90 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in March fell 1.03% or 0.63 to hit $60.51 a barrel, while the April Brent oil contract fell 0.71% or 0.46 to trade at $63.88 a barrel.

CAD/USD was up 0.11% to 0.7879, while CAD/EUR fell 0.30% to 0.6518.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.38% at 90.605.
