Canada shares lower at close of trade; S&P/TSX Composite down 0.46%

Investing.com – Canada equities were lower at the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Healthcare , IT and Clean Technology sectors propelled shares lower.

At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite declined 0.46%.

The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were MEG Energy Corp (TSX: MEG ), which rose 4.36% or 0.69 points to trade at 16.50 at the close. Spartan Delta Corp (TSX: SDE ) added 4.32% or 0.52 points to end at 12.55 and HudBay Minerals Inc (TSX: HBM ) was up 4.11% or 0.21 points to 5.32 in late trade.

Biggest losers included Nuvei Corp (TSX: NVEI ), which lost 21.44% or 11.60 points to trade at 42.50 in late trade. Cronos Group Inc (TSX: CRON ) declined 13.91% or 0.64 points to end at 3.96 and Canopy Growth Corp (TSX: WEED ) shed 12.32% or 0.52 points to 3.70.

Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 602 to 396 and 109 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.

The S&P/TSX 60 VIX , which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 0.70% to 20.18.

In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.35% or 6.25 to $1,811.45 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in September fell 0.11% or 0.10 to hit $90.66 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract fell 0.19% or 0.18 to trade at $96.47 a barrel.

CAD/USD was unchanged 0.20% to 0.78, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.35% to 0.76.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.14% at 106.17.
