Canada shares lower at close of trade; S&P/TSX Composite down 0.57%

Investing.com – Canada equities were lower at the close on Friday, as losses in the Healthcare , Materials and Energy sectors propelled shares lower.

At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite fell 0.57%.

The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Real Matters Inc (TSX: REAL ), which rose 4.10% or 0.59 points to trade at 14.97 at the close. Bombardier Inc (TSX: BBDb ) added 3.50% or 0.050 points to end at 1.480 and CAE Inc. (TSX: CAE ) was up 3.36% or 1.35 points to 41.48 in late trade.

Biggest losers included Silvercorp Metals Inc (TSX: SVM ), which lost 24.27% or 1.67 points to trade at 5.21 in late trade. Aurora Cannabis Inc (TSX: ACB ) declined 15.20% or 0.405 points to end at 2.260 and Ero Copper Corp (TSX: ERO ) shed 7.58% or 1.41 points to 17.19.

Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 643 to 368 and 126 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.

The S&P/TSX 60 VIX , which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was unchanged 0% to 11.27.

In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was up 0.26% or 4.15 to $1574.15 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in March fell 1.10% or 0.56 to hit $50.39 a barrel, while the April Brent oil contract fell 0.80% or 0.44 to trade at $54.49 a barrel.

CAD/USD was down 0.14% to 0.7517, while CAD/EUR rose 0.20% to 0.6868.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.20% at 98.580.
