Canada shares lower at close of trade; S&P/TSX Composite down 0.84%

Investing.com – Canada equities were lower at the close on Thursday, as losses in the Healthcare , IT and Financials sectors propelled shares lower.

At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite fell 0.84%.

The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were WELL Health Technologies Corp (TSX: WELL ), which rose 5.89% or 0.29 points to trade at 5.21 at the close. Lithium Americas Corp (TSX: LAC ) added 4.72% or 2.17 points to end at 48.17 and K92 Mining Inc (TSX: KNT ) was up 4.34% or 0.38 points to 9.14 in late trade.

Biggest losers included West Fraser Timber Co Ltd (TSX: WFG ), which lost 4.87% or 5.27 points to trade at 102.86 in late trade. Hut 8 Mining Corp (TSX: HUT ) declined 4.57% or 0.33 points to end at 6.89 and Canopy Growth Corp (TSX: WEED ) shed 4.53% or 0.45 points to 9.48.

Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 563 to 482 and 103 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.

The S&P/TSX 60 VIX , which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 1.34% to 13.95.

In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was up 0.16% or 3.00 to $1,936.50 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in May fell 6.43% or 6.93 to hit $100.89 a barrel, while the June Brent oil contract fell 5.48% or 6.11 to trade at $105.33 a barrel.

CAD/USD was unchanged 0.09% to 0.80, while CAD/EUR rose 0.72% to 0.72.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.51% at 98.37.
