Canada shares lower at close of trade; S&P/TSX Composite down 0.90%

Investing.com – Canada equities were lower at the close on Thursday, as losses in the Healthcare , IT and Financials sectors propelled shares lower.

At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite fell 0.90%.

The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were K92 Mining Inc (TSX: KNT ), which rose 9.67% or 0.74 points to trade at 8.34 at the close. Agnico-Eagle Mines Ltd . (TSX: AEM ) added 8.10% or 5.37 points to end at 71.68 and Equinox Gold Corp (TSX: EQX ) was up 6.21% or 0.51 points to 8.72 in late trade.

Biggest losers included Osisko Mining Corp (TSX: OSK ), which lost 14.41% or 0.69 points to trade at 4.10 in late trade. Hut 8 Mining Corp (TSX: HUT ) declined 10.99% or 1.000 points to end at 8.100 and Shopify Inc (TSX: SHOP ) shed 10.80% or 101.41 points to 837.50.

Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 660 to 353 and 105 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.

The S&P/TSX 60 VIX , which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 2.49% to 25.91.

In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was up 1.59% or 29.70 to $1901.20 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in March fell 2.04% or 1.91 to hit $91.75 a barrel, while the April Brent oil contract fell 1.89% or 1.79 to trade at $93.02 a barrel.

CAD/USD was down 0.15% to 0.7872, while CAD/EUR fell 0.02% to 0.6928.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.13% at 95.820.
