Canada shares lower at close of trade; S&P/TSX Composite down 0.98%
Credit: © Reuters. – Canada equities were lower at the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Utilities , Clean Technology and Telecoms sectors propelled shares lower.

At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite lost 0.98% to hit a new 52-week low.

The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Aurora Cannabis Inc (TSX: ACB ), which rose 6.96% or 0.11 points to trade at 1.69 at the close. Nutrien Ltd (TSX: NTR ) added 4.04% or 4.39 points to end at 113.00 and LifeWorks Inc (TSX: LWRK ) was up 2.91% or 0.52 points to 18.38 in late trade.

Biggest losers included Bombardier Inc (TSX: BBDb ), which lost 18.21% or 4.89 points to trade at 21.97 in late trade. NexGen Energy Ltd. (TSX: NXE ) declined 9.32% or 0.51 points to end at 4.96 and Birchcliff Energy Ltd . (TSX: BIR ) shed 8.65% or 1.01 points to 10.66.

Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 734 to 333 and 73 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.

The S&P/TSX 60 VIX , which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 5.60% to 21.24.

In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was down 1.22% or 22.30 to $1,809.50 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in July fell 1.99% or 2.41 to hit $118.52 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract fell 1.27% or 1.55 to trade at $120.72 a barrel.

CAD/USD was unchanged 0.44% to 0.77, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.48% to 0.74.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.32% at 105.30.
