Canada shares lower at close of trade; S&P/TSX Composite down 1.41%

Investing.com – Canada equities were lower at the close on Friday, as losses in the Healthcare , IT and Consumer Discretionary sectors propelled shares lower.

At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite fell 1.41%.

The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Endeavour Silver Corp. (TSX: EDR ), which rose 8.84% or 0.41 points to trade at 5.05 at the close. Fortuna Silver Mines Inc (TSX: FVI ) added 8.84% or 0.38 points to end at 4.68 and IAMGold Corporation (TSX: IMG ) was up 8.03% or 0.22 points to 2.96 in late trade.

Biggest losers included goeasy Ltd (TSX: GSY ), which lost 7.89% or 8.95 points to trade at 104.55 in late trade. Tilray Inc (TSX: TLRY ) declined 6.29% or 0.29 points to end at 4.32 and Canaccord Genuity Group Inc (TSX: CF ) shed 6.03% or 0.65 points to 10.13.

Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 770 to 287 and 84 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.

The S&P/TSX 60 VIX , which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 6.92% to 19.48.

In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was up 1.23% or 22.80 to $1,875.60 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in July fell 0.78% or 0.95 to hit $120.56 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract fell 0.93% or 1.15 to trade at $121.92 a barrel.

CAD/USD was unchanged 0.61% to 0.78, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.34% to 0.74.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.96% at 104.21.
