The U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) said today its flight personnel alert system is not processing updates. The regulator issued an advisory to inform stakeholders that its NOTAM (Notice to Air Missions) system “failed.”

“The FAA is working to restore its Notice to Air Missions System. We are performing final validation checks and reloading the system now. Operations across the National Airspace System are affected,” FAA tweeted.

The FAA provided an update at 06:58 ET (11:58 GMT), saying it is still working to fully restore the NOTAM system following an outage.

“While some functions are beginning to come back online, National Airspace System operations remain limited.”

In the latest update posted on Twitter, the FAA said it ordered airlines to pause all domestic departures until 09:00 ET to allow it to “validate the integrity of flight and safety information."

NOTAM system is used to alert pilots and general flight personnel about any security issues, and common relevant procedures.

According to the flight tracking website FlightAware, over 400 flights were delayed as of Wednesday 05:31 ET.
