India shares higher at close of trade; Nifty 50 up 0.37%

Investing.com – India equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the Fast Moving Consumer Goods , Technology and IT sectors propelled shares higher.

At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 added 0.37%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index climbed 0.46%.

The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (NS: HLL ), which rose 4.05% or 85.45 points to trade at 2,195.90 at the close. Housing Development Finance Corporation Ltd (NS: HDFC ) added 4.02% or 82.55 points to end at 2,135.25 and Asian Paints Ltd. (NS: ASPN ) was up 3.12% or 80.50 points to 2,660.70 in late trade.

Biggest losers included Tata Steel Ltd (NS: TISC ), which lost 5.00% or 45.30 points to trade at 861.40 in late trade. Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd (NS: ONGC ) declined 4.98% or 7.05 points to end at 134.40 and UPL Ltd (NS: UPLL ) shed 3.71% or 24.70 points to 640.45.

The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Housing Development Finance Corporation Ltd (BO: HDFC ) which rose 3.97% to 2,134.25, Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (BO: HLL ) which was up 3.95% to settle at 2,195.95 and Asian Paints Ltd. (BO: ASPN ) which gained 2.96% to close at 2,659.55.

The worst performers were Tata Steel Ltd (BO: TISC ) which was down 5.03% to 861.20 in late trade, IndusInd Bank Ltd. (BO: INBK ) which lost 2.92% to settle at 783.35 and NTPC Ltd (BO: NTPC ) which was down 2.17% to 137.40 at the close.

Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1623 to 250 and 31 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 2666 fell and 636 advanced, while 162 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.

The India VIX , which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 1.52% to 22.41.

In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was up 0.03% or 0.50 to $1,841.10 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in August fell 0.02% or 0.02 to hit $107.97 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract fell 0.34% or 0.38 to trade at $112.74 a barrel.

USD/INR was up 0.01% to 77.96, while EUR/INR rose 0.39% to 82.13.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.40% at 104.07.
