India shares higher at close of trade; Nifty 50 up 0.50%

Investing.com – India equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Power , Capital Goods and IT sectors propelled shares higher.

At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 rose 0.50% to hit a new all time high, while the BSE Sensex 30 index added 0.58%.

The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (NS: PGRD ), which rose 6.04% or 10.65 points to trade at 187.00 at the close. Tech Mahindra Ltd (NS: TEML ) added 4.76% or 62.95 points to end at 1386.55 and Tata Motors Ltd (NS: TAMO ) was up 3.57% or 10.55 points to 306.00 in late trade.

Biggest losers included Eicher Motors Ltd. (NS: EICH ), which lost 3.74% or 101.70 points to trade at 2616.55 in late trade. Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories Ltd (NS: REDY ) declined 0.78% or 36.85 points to end at 4708.00 and Indian Oil Corporation Ltd (NS: IOC ) shed 0.53% or 0.55 points to 104.10.

The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (BO: PGRD ) which rose 6.22% to 187.05, Tech Mahindra Ltd (BO: TEML ) which was up 4.82% to settle at 1387.05 and HCL Technologies Ltd (BO: HCLT ) which gained 2.82% to close at 1097.05.

The worst performers were Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories Ltd (BO: REDY ) which was down 0.67% to 4712.45 in late trade, IndusInd Bank Ltd. (BO: INBK ) which lost 0.56% to settle at 1035.30 and AXIS Bank Ltd. (BO: AXBK ) which was down 0.49% to 757.15 at the close.

Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1398 to 296 and 35 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 2264 rose and 788 declined, while 109 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.

The India VIX , which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 2.67% to 12.3725.

In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.00% or 0.05 to $1753.35 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in September fell 0.12% or 0.08 to hit $69.17 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract fell 0.03% or 0.02 to trade at $71.42 a barrel.

USD/INR was down 0.01% to 74.242, while EUR/INR rose 0.01% to 87.1565.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.00% at 92.922.
