India shares higher at close of trade; Nifty 50 up 0.86%

Investing.com – India equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Capital Goods , Auto and Consumer Durables sectors propelled shares higher.

At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 added 0.86%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index climbed 0.83%.

The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Asian Paints Ltd. (NS: ASPN ), which rose 2.93% or 95.80 points to trade at 3368.20 at the close. Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (NS: SUN ) added 2.64% or 21.00 points to end at 815.10 and Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (NS: MAHM ) was up 2.46% or 20.15 points to 838.70 in late trade.

Biggest losers included Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (NS: PGRD ), which lost 0.34% or 0.70 points to trade at 205.40 in late trade. IndusInd Bank Ltd. (NS: INBK ) declined 0.30% or 2.60 points to end at 852.65 and ICICI Bank Ltd (NS: ICBK ) shed 0.03% or 0.20 points to 735.80.

The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Asian Paints Ltd. (BO: ASPN ) which rose 2.85% to 3367.15, Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (BO: SUN ) which was up 2.59% to settle at 815.00 and Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (BO: MAHM ) which gained 2.53% to close at 839.00.

The worst performers were IndusInd Bank Ltd. (BO: INBK ) which was down 0.29% to 852.70 in late trade, Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (BO: PGRD ) which lost 0.22% to settle at 205.60 and ICICI Bank Ltd (BO: ICBK ) which was up 0.04% to 736.05 at the close.

Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1430 to 369 and 24 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 2531 rose and 751 declined, while 93 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.

The India VIX , which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 3.75% to 16.4750.

In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was up 0.26% or 4.75 to $1813.55 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in February rose 1.02% or 0.77 to hit $76.34 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract rose 0.92% or 0.72 to trade at $78.94 a barrel.

USD/INR was down 0.36% to 74.692, while EUR/INR fell 0.66% to 84.3420.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.19% at 96.265.
