India shares higher at close of trade; Nifty 50 up 0.87%

Investing.com – India equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Power , Real Estate and Metals sectors propelled shares higher.

At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 gained 0.87% to hit a new 1-month high, while the BSE Sensex 30 index gained 0.88%.

The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (NS: MAHM ), which rose 4.65% or 39.15 points to trade at 880.55 at the close. Bharti Airtel Ltd. (NS: BRTI ) added 3.80% or 26.75 points to end at 730.20 and Reliance Industries Ltd (NS: RELI ) was up 2.67% or 65.55 points to 2521.10 in late trade.

Biggest losers included Titan Company Ltd (NS: TITN ), which lost 1.52% or 40.40 points to trade at 2612.95 in late trade. Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (NS: TCS ) declined 1.43% or 56.00 points to end at 3859.90 and Shree Cements Ltd. (NS: SHCM ) shed 1.19% or 323.05 points to 26715.50.

The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (BO: MAHM ) which rose 4.68% to 880.75, Bharti Airtel Ltd (BO: BRTI ) which was up 3.76% to settle at 730.05 and Reliance Industries Ltd (BO: RELI ) which gained 2.68% to close at 2520.60.

The worst performers were Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (BO: TCS ) which was down 1.50% to 3857.25 in late trade, Titan Company Ltd (BO: TITN ) which lost 1.46% to settle at 2612.50 and HDFC Bank Ltd (BO: HDBK ) which was down 0.58% to 1556.55 at the close.

Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 934 to 860 and 27 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1749 rose and 1585 declined, while 78 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.

The India VIX , which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 3.24% to 17.1825.

In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was down 0.08% or 1.40 to $1817.10 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in February rose 0.38% or 0.31 to hit $81.53 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract rose 0.19% or 0.16 to trade at $83.88 a barrel.

USD/INR was up 0.23% to 73.937, while EUR/INR rose 0.14% to 83.9805.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.02% at 95.645.
