India shares lower at close of trade; Nifty 50 down 0.27%

Investing.com – India equities were lower at the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Oil & Gas , Auto and Metals sectors propelled shares lower.

At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 declined 0.27% to hit a new 6-month low, while the BSE Sensex 30 index lost 0.29%.

The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were NTPC Ltd (NS: NTPC ), which rose 2.15% or 3.20 points to trade at 152.10 at the close. Bharti Airtel Ltd. (NS: BRTI ) added 1.60% or 10.75 points to end at 682.05 and Apollo Hospitals Enterprises Ltd. (NS: APLH ) was up 1.49% or 54.30 points to 3,706.20 in late trade.

Biggest losers included Bajaj Auto Ltd (NS: BAJA ), which lost 5.14% or 199.50 points to trade at 3,681.75 in late trade. IndusInd Bank Ltd. (NS: INBK ) declined 2.46% or 21.25 points to end at 844.20 and Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd (NS: ONGC ) shed 2.26% or 3.60 points to 155.95.

The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Bharti Airtel Ltd (BO: BRTI ) which rose 1.63% to 682.15, NTPC Ltd (BO: NTPC ) which was up 1.61% to settle at 151.25 and UltraTech Cement Ltd (BO: ULTC ) which gained 1.42% to close at 5,432.15.

The worst performers were IndusInd Bank Ltd. (BO: INBK ) which was down 2.12% to 845.85 in late trade, Tech Mahindra Ltd (BO: TEML ) which lost 2.08% to settle at 1,030.45 and Reliance Industries Ltd (BO: RELI ) which was down 1.33% to 2,627.35 at the close.

Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1008 to 802 and 61 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1715 fell and 1487 advanced, while 134 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.

The India VIX , which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 2.14% to 21.89.

In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was down 0.47% or 8.65 to $1,823.15 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in July rose 0.77% or 0.93 to hit $121.86 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract rose 0.85% or 1.04 to trade at $123.31 a barrel.

USD/INR was down 0.22% to 78.01, while EUR/INR rose 0.19% to 81.40.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.05% at 104.92.
