India shares lower at close of trade; Nifty 50 down 0.57%

Investing.com – India equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Power , Oil & Gas and Technology sectors propelled shares lower.

At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 lost 0.57%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index fell 0.69%.

The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Divi's Laboratories Ltd. (NS: DIVI ), which rose 2.48% or 91.35 points to trade at 3,778.80 at the close. JSW Steel Ltd (NS: JSTL ) added 2.46% or 14.15 points to end at 588.60 and Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (NS: HLL ) was up 1.97% or 48.20 points to 2,497.75 in late trade.

Biggest losers included IndusInd Bank Ltd. (NS: INBK ), which lost 3.31% or 28.00 points to trade at 819.05 in late trade. Bharti Airtel Ltd. (NS: BRTI ) declined 2.94% or 19.50 points to end at 643.50 and Housing Development Finance Corporation Ltd (NS: HDFC ) shed 2.78% or 61.85 points to 2,165.05.

The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (BO: HLL ) which rose 1.97% to 2,497.55, Asian Paints Ltd. (BO: ASPN ) which was up 1.70% to settle at 2,941.40 and Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd. (BO: KTKM ) which gained 1.40% to close at 1,742.85.

The worst performers were IndusInd Bank Ltd. (BO: INBK ) which was down 3.42% to 817.75 in late trade, Bharti Airtel Ltd (BO: BRTI ) which lost 2.87% to settle at 643.45 and Housing Development Finance Corporation Ltd (BO: HDFC ) which was down 2.53% to 2,170.00 at the close.

Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 938 to 874 and 63 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1624 rose and 1571 declined, while 140 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.

The India VIX , which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 0.15% to 18.52.

In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was up 0.16% or 2.70 to $1,727.50 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in August rose 0.80% or 0.77 to hit $96.61 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract rose 0.68% or 0.68 to trade at $100.17 a barrel.

USD/INR was down 0.20% to 79.60, while EUR/INR rose 0.44% to 80.10.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.11% at 107.79.
