India shares lower at close of trade; Nifty 50 down 0.78%

Investing.com – India equities were lower at the close on Thursday, as losses in the Power , Consumer Durables and Public Sector Undertakings sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 declined 0.78%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index lost 0.76%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Bharti Infratel Ltd (NS: BHRI ), which rose 7.15% or 11.50 points to trade at 172.40 at the close. Yes Bank Ltd (NS: YESB ) added 6.65% or 1.75 points to end at 28.05 and IndusInd Bank Ltd. (NS: INBK ) was up 6.58% or 28.00 points to 453.50 in late trade.
Biggest losers included NTPC Ltd (NS: NTPC ), which lost 4.33% or 4.10 points to trade at 90.60 in late trade. Bharat Petroleum Corp. Ltd. (NS: BPCL ) declined 4.25% or 14.60 points to end at 329.20 and Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd (NS: ONGC ) shed 4.16% or 3.30 points to 75.95.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were IndusInd Bank Ltd. (BO: INBK ) which rose 6.58% to 453.65, Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (BO: MAHM ) which was up 3.45% to settle at 400.75 and Reliance Industries Ltd (BO: RELI ) which gained 3.12% to close at 1507.25.
The worst performers were Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd (BO: ONGC ) which was down 4.54% to 75.65 in late trade, NTPC Ltd (BO: NTPC ) which lost 4.38% to settle at 90.60 and Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd. (BO: KTKM ) which was down 3.69% to 1199.50 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 801 to 696 and 95 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1207 fell and 1012 advanced, while 149 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India VIX , which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 3.19% to 39.9300.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was up 0.56% or 9.40 to $1697.90 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in June rose 8.92% or 2.14 to hit $26.13 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract rose 6.39% or 1.90 to trade at $31.62 a barrel.
USD/INR was down 0.34% to 75.823, while EUR/INR fell 0.41% to 81.7865.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.12% at 100.257.
