Japan shares higher at close of trade; Nikkei 225 up 0.28%

Investing.com – Japan equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Paper & Pulp , Railway & Bus and Real Estate sectors propelled shares higher.

At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 added 0.28%.

The biggest gainers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Dainippon Screen Mfg. Co., Ltd. (T: 7735 ), which rose 4.56% or 330.0 points to trade at 7570.0 at the close. Hitachi Construction Machinery Co (T: 6305 ) added 3.78% or 107.0 points to end at 2935.0 and Tokyo Tatemono Co., Ltd. (T: 8804 ) was up 3.76% or 60.0 points to 1655.0 in late trade.

Biggest losers included Yahoo Japan Corp. (T: 4689 ), which lost 3.13% or 12.0 points to trade at 371.0 in late trade. JGC Corp. (T: 1963 ) declined 2.64% or 43.0 points to end at 1587.0 and Olympus Corp. (T: 7733 ) shed 2.36% or 39.5 points to 1636.5.

Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 2283 to 1213 and 269 ended unchanged on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.

The Nikkei Volatility , which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was unchanged 0.00% to 14.43.

In commodities trading, Crude oil for January delivery was down 0.17% or 0.10 to $58.31 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in February fell 0.14% or 0.09 to hit $63.12 a barrel, while the February Gold Futures contract fell 0.04% or 0.65 to trade at $1466.75 a troy ounce.

USD/JPY was up 0.12% to 109.17, while EUR/JPY rose 0.08% to 120.22.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.10% at 98.265.
