Japan shares higher at close of trade; Nikkei 225 up 0.47%

Investing.com – Japan equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Paper & Pulp , Railway & Bus and Real Estate sectors propelled shares higher.

At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 gained 0.47% to hit a new 52-week high.

The biggest gainers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Tosoh Corp. (T: 4042 ), which rose 5.21% or 87.0 points to trade at 1757.0 at the close. Inpex Corp. (T: 1605 ) added 3.97% or 43.5 points to end at 1138.5 and Olympus Corp. (T: 7733 ) was up 3.89% or 62.5 points to 1669.5 in late trade.

Biggest losers included Dentsu Inc. (T: 4324 ), which lost 6.28% or 260.0 points to trade at 3880.0 in late trade. Mitsui Engineering & Shipbuilding (T: 7003 ) declined 3.00% or 30.0 points to end at 970.0 and Amada Co., Ltd. (T: 6113 ) shed 2.31% or 30.0 points to 1270.0.

Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 2372 to 1157 and 251 ended unchanged on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.

The Nikkei Volatility , which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was unchanged 0.00% to 13.68 a new 3-month low.

In commodities trading, Crude oil for February delivery was up 0.10% or 0.06 to $60.20 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in February rose 0.15% or 0.10 to hit $65.44 a barrel, while the February Gold Futures contract rose 0.04% or 0.65 to trade at $1481.15 a troy ounce.

USD/JPY was up 0.09% to 109.58, while EUR/JPY rose 0.10% to 122.11.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.12% at 96.695.
