Japan shares higher at close of trade; Nikkei 225 up 1.75%

Investing.com – Japan equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Gas & Water , Power and Marine Transport sectors propelled shares higher.

At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 rose 1.75%.

The biggest gainers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Fujikura Ltd. (TYO: 5803 ), which rose 15.86% or 85.00 points to trade at 621.00 at the close. Denso Corp. (TYO: 6902 ) added 9.72% or 705.00 points to end at 7,957.00 and Tokuyama Corp. (TYO: 4043 ) was up 7.44% or 120.00 points to 1,733.00 in late trade.

Biggest losers included Konica Minolta, Inc. (TYO: 4902 ), which lost 6.20% or 30.00 points to trade at 454.00 in late trade. Hitachi Construction Machinery Co (TYO: 6305 ) declined 4.83% or 150.00 points to end at 2,955.00 and Keisei Electric Railway Co., Ltd. (TYO: 9009 ) shed 4.77% or 160.00 points to 3,195.00.

Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 2505 to 1050 and 208 ended unchanged on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.

The Nikkei Volatility , which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was down 2.88% to 26.61.

In commodities trading, Crude oil for June delivery was down 0.29% or 0.30 to $101.72 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in July fell 0.37% or 0.39 to hit $104.56 a barrel, while the June Gold Futures contract fell 0.15% or 2.74 to trade at $1,885.96 a troy ounce.

USD/JPY was up 1.48% to 130.32, while EUR/JPY rose 1.31% to 137.32.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.28% at 103.25.
