NAIROBI, Feb 21 (Reuters) - The following company announcements, scheduled economic indicators, debt and currency market moves and political events may affect African markets on Tuesday.

- - - - - EVENTS: SOUTH AFRICA - Treasury auctions bonds of various maturities worth a combined 2.35 billion rand.

GLOBAL MARKETS Asian stocks held ground on Tuesday though Chinese equities surged to a fresh two-month high as domestic funds piled into financial counters on expectations the world's second biggest economy may have turned a corner.

OIL PRICES Crude futures rose for a second day on Tuesday, with data showing hedge funds are betting big across oil markets following OPEC production cuts agreed last year.

SOUTH AFRICA MARKETS South African stocks snapped a four-session losing streak on Monday, buoyed by retailers Steinhoff SNHJ.J and Shoprite SHPJ.J which announced they had scrapped their plan to merge after failing to agree on a price.

MARKETS Nigeria naira hit a fresh low of 520 on the black market on Monday, as retail currency traders tried to digest a new central bank decision to sell dollars to retail users through commercial lenders, one retail trader said.

CURRENCY Nigeria effectively devalued the naira for private individuals on Monday, paving the way for a possible broader move despite stiff resistance from President Muhammadu Buhari.

POLITICS Nigeria's deputy leader is making wide use of powers granted by President Muhammadu Buhari, who is on extended sick leave abroad, as the country seeks to avoid a debilitating power vacuum while it confronts its first recession in 25 years.

MARKETS The Kenyan shilling KES= was firm against the dollar on Monday due to increased foreign exchange inflows from non-governmental organisations, traders said. DROUGHT Kenya's government will allow millers to import 5 million bags of yellow maize for the production of animal feeds to cushion consumer prices of white maize following a drought, a top agriculture ministry official said on Monday.
