Australia shares higher at close of trade; S&P/ASX 200 up 0.01%
Credit: © Reuters. – Australia equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Energy , Resources and Metals & Mining sectors propelled shares higher.

At the close in Sydney, the S&P/ASX 200 rose 0.01%.

The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/ASX 200 were Beach Energy Ltd (AX: BPT ), which rose 5.71% or 0.110 points to trade at 2.035 at the close. Brickworks Ltd (AX: BKW ) added 4.19% or 0.680 points to end at 16.900 and Bellamys Australia Ltd (AX: BAL ) was up 4.12% or 0.390 points to 9.850 in late trade.

Biggest losers included Webjet Ltd (AX: WEB ), which lost 5.67% or 0.940 points to trade at 15.640 in late trade. St Barbara Ltd (AX: SBM ) declined 5.32% or 0.185 points to end at 3.295 and Regis Resources Ltd (AX: RRL ) shed 5.15% or 0.200 points to 3.680.

Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 607 to 552 and 349 ended unchanged on the Sydney Stock Exchange.

The S&P/ASX 200 VIX , which measures the implied volatility of S&P/ASX 200 options, was up 0.22% to 11.165.

In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.10% or 1.20 to $1203.20 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in November rose 0.39% or 0.28 to hit $72.36 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract rose 0.40% or 0.32 to trade at $80.85 a barrel.

AUD/USD was down 0.12% to 0.7244, while AUD/JPY fell 0.09% to 81.75.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.03% at 93.88.
