Australia shares lower at close of trade; S&P/ASX 200 down 0.64%
Credit: © Reuters. – Australia equities were lower at the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Energy , Resources and Utilities sectors propelled shares lower.

At the close in Sydney, the S&P/ASX 200 declined 0.64%.

The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/ASX 200 were Technology One Ltd (AX: TNE ), which rose 8.56% or 0.375 points to trade at 4.755 at the close. Metcash Ltd (AX: MTS ) added 4.03% or 0.100 points to end at 2.580 and Seven West Media Ltd (AX: SWM ) was up 2.65% or 0.023 points to 0.873 in late trade.

Biggest losers included Sigma Pharmaceuticals Ltd (AX: SIG ), which lost 3.54% or 0.018 points to trade at 0.477 in late trade. Worleyparsons Ltd (AX: WOR ) declined 3.46% or 0.620 points to end at 17.320 and Wisetech Global Ltd (AX: WTC ) shed 3.29% or 0.580 points to 17.070.

Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 671 to 511 and 349 ended unchanged on the Sydney Stock Exchange.

The S&P/ASX 200 VIX , which measures the implied volatility of S&P/ASX 200 options, was up 6.09% to 13.023.

In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was up 0.10% or 1.30 to $1241.00 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in September fell 0.24% or 0.16 to hit $66.91 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract fell 0.21% or 0.15 to trade at $71.69 a barrel.

AUD/USD was up 0.11% to 0.7427, while AUD/JPY rose 0.19% to 83.47.

The US Dollar Index Futures was unchanged 0.00% at 94.27.
