Brazil shares higher at close of trade; Bovespa up 0.02%

Investing.com – Brazil equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the Basic Materials , Industrials and Telecoms sectors propelled shares higher.

At the close in Sao Paulo, the Bovespa rose 0.02%.

The biggest gainers of the session on the Bovespa were Suzano Papel e Celulose SA (SA: SUZB3 ), which rose 4.99% or 2.15 points to trade at 45.25 at the close. Petroleo Brasileiro SA (SA: PETR3 ) added 4.15% or 1.20 points to end at 30.15 and Vale SA (SA: VALE3 ) was up 3.12% or 1.64 points to 54.27 in late trade.

Biggest losers included EDP - Energias do Brasil SA (SA: ENBR3 ), which lost 10.90% or 1.70 points to trade at 13.90 in late trade. Estacio Participacoes SA (SA: ESTC3 ) declined 7.45% or 2.08 points to end at 25.85 and Qualicorp SA (SA: QUAL3 ) shed 6.32% or 1.51 points to 22.38.

Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 288 to 168 and 25 ended unchanged on the BM&FBovespa Stock Exchange.

The CBOE Brazil Etf Volatility , which measures the implied volatility of Bovespa options, was up 2.28% to 27.87.

In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was down 0.55% or 7.20 to $1313.50 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in June rose 0.58% or 0.41 to hit $71.11 a barrel, while the July US coffee C contract fell 1.43% or 1.70 to trade at $117.58 .

USD/BRL was up 0.64% to 3.6222, while EUR/BRL rose 0.56% to 4.3240.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.06% at 92.50.
