Brazil shares higher at close of trade; Bovespa up 0.03%

Investing.com – Brazil equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Financials , Consumption and Industrials sectors propelled shares higher.

At the close in Sao Paulo, the Bovespa gained 0.03%.

The biggest gainers of the session on the Bovespa were Gerdau SA Pref (SA: GGBR4 ), which rose 3.19% or 0.53 points to trade at 17.15 at the close. Viavarejo Unt (SA: VVAR11 ) added 2.88% or 0.79 points to end at 28.18 and Telefonica Brasil SA (SA: VIVT4 ) was up 2.43% or 1.23 points to 51.88 in late trade.

Biggest losers included EcoRodovias SA (SA: ECOR3 ), which lost 8.16% or 0.82 points to trade at 9.23 in late trade. Cia Siderurgica Nacional SA (SA: CSNA3 ) declined 4.43% or 0.45 points to end at 9.70 and Usinas Siderurgicas de Minas Gerais (SA: USIM5 ) shed 4.22% or 0.52 points to 11.80.

Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 273 to 166 and 24 ended unchanged on the BM&FBovespa Stock Exchange.

The CBOE Brazil Etf Volatility , which measures the implied volatility of Bovespa options, was up 1.32% to 32.12.

In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was up 0.02% or 0.20 to $1318.10 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in April fell 0.45% or 0.28 to hit $61.36 a barrel, while the May US coffee C contract rose 1.60% or 1.95 to trade at $123.92 .

USD/BRL was up 0.16% to 3.2513, while EUR/BRL rose 0.71% to 3.9867.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.41% at 90.24.
