Brazil shares higher at close of trade; Bovespa up 0.07%

Investing.com – Brazil equities were higher at the close on Friday, as gains in the Public Utilities , Electric Power and Consumption sectors propelled shares higher.

At the close in Sao Paulo, the Bovespa gained 0.07% to hit a new 1-month high.

The biggest gainers of the session on the Bovespa were Centrais Eletricas Brasileiras SA (SA: ELET6 ), which rose 6.40% or 1.34 points to trade at 22.29 at the close. Centrais Eletricas Brasileiras SA (SA: ELET3 ) added 4.33% or 0.78 points to end at 18.78 and EcoRodovias SA (SA: ECOR3 ) was up 3.64% or 0.43 points to 12.23 in late trade.

Biggest losers included Fibria Celulose SA (SA: FIBR3 ), which lost 1.93% or 0.95 points to trade at 48.40 in late trade. Suzano Papel e Celulose SA (SA: SUZB3 ) declined 1.74% or 0.33 points to end at 18.64 and BR Malls Participacoes SA (SA: BRML3 ) shed 1.52% or 0.19 points to 12.32.

Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 232 to 171 and 48 ended unchanged on the BM&FBovespa Stock Exchange.

The CBOE Brazil Etf Volatility , which measures the implied volatility of Bovespa options, was down 4.22% to 25.42.

In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was up 0.65% or 8.20 to $1278.80 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in February fell 0.03% or 0.02 to hit $58.34 a barrel, while the March US coffee C contract fell 1.31% or 1.60 to trade at $120.45 .

USD/BRL was up 0.92% to 3.3391, while EUR/BRL rose 0.79% to 3.9593.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.06% at 92.90.
