Brazil shares higher at close of trade; Bovespa up 0.24%

Investing.com – Brazil equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Basic Materials , Financials and Real Estate sectors propelled shares higher.

At the close in Sao Paulo, the Bovespa gained 0.24%.

The biggest gainers of the session on the Bovespa were Gol Linhas Aereas Inteligentes SA Pref (SA: GOLL4 ), which rose 6.04% or 1.43 points to trade at 25.12 at the close. Via Varejo SA (SA: VVAR3 ) added 5.05% or 0.22 points to end at 4.58 and MRV Engenharia e Participacoes SA (SA: MRVE3 ) was up 4.45% or 0.52 points to 12.20 in late trade.

Biggest losers included Petroleo Brasileiro SA PN (SA: PETR4 ), which lost 3.80% or 0.87 points to trade at 22.00 in late trade. TAESA UNT N2 (SA: TAEE11 ) declined 3.60% or 0.85 points to end at 22.75 and Petroleo Brasileiro SA (SA: PETR3 ) shed 3.38% or 0.88 points to 25.17.

Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 236 to 176 and 33 ended unchanged on the BM&FBovespa Stock Exchange.

The CBOE Brazil Etf Volatility , which measures the implied volatility of Bovespa options, was down 0.32% to 34.66.

In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was up 0.10% or 1.20 to $1253.00 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in February fell 7.19% or 3.61 to hit $46.59 a barrel, while the March US coffee C contract fell 0.70% or 0.70 to trade at $99.40 .

USD/BRL was up 0.33% to 3.9123, while EUR/BRL rose 0.43% to 4.4443.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.00% at 96.547.
