Brazil shares higher at close of trade; Bovespa up 0.42%

Investing.com – Brazil equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Basic Materials , Financials and Consumption sectors propelled shares higher.

At the close in Sao Paulo, the Bovespa rose 0.42%.

The biggest gainers of the session on the Bovespa were Ultrapar Participacoes SA (SA: UGPA3 ), which rose 7.56% or 3.00 points to trade at 42.70 at the close. Cosan SA Industria e Comercio (SA: CSAN3 ) added 4.17% or 1.54 points to end at 38.49 and Cia Siderurgica Nacional SA (SA: CSNA3 ) was up 3.58% or 0.33 points to 9.56 in late trade.

Biggest losers included Equatorial Energia SA (SA: EQTL3 ), which lost 2.53% or 1.57 points to trade at 60.59 in late trade. Embraer SA (SA: EMBR3 ) declined 2.29% or 0.44 points to end at 18.81 and WEG SA (SA: WEGE3 ) shed 1.91% or 0.35 points to 17.96.

Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 0 to 0 on the BM&FBovespa Stock Exchange.

The CBOE Brazil Etf Volatility , which measures the implied volatility of Bovespa options, was up 2.47% to 32.42.

In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.34% or 4.10 to $1216.00 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in September fell 0.01% or 0.01 to hit $68.95 a barrel, while the September US coffee C contract fell 0.12% or 0.13 to trade at $106.95 .

USD/BRL was up 0.26% to 3.7600, while EUR/BRL fell 0.09% to 4.3410.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.07% at 95.07.
